Emily AbelWILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College volleyball team snapped a six-match losing streak with a pair of wins on Saturday, Oct. 4. The Lady Warriors defeated Misericordia and Penn State-Harrisburg in a tri-match at Lamade Gymnasium.

Lycoming opened the day with a 3-0 victory against Misericordia.

Beth Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) led the team with 12 kills in 29 attempts while also recording eight digs and two solo blocks. Heather Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa.) registered eight kills and 12 digs while Katie Johnson (Newville, Pa.) added five kills and two service aces.

Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa.) led the defensive effort with 33 digs. Amy Sharlow (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and Abby Myers (Shippensburg, Pa.) shared the setting duties, with Sharlow handing out 19 assists and recording 12 digs and Myers adding 12 assists and 13 digs.

The Lady Warriors posted 34 kills in 151 attempts in the match.

In the second match of the day, Lycoming defeated PSU-Harrisburg, 3-0.

Franz posted a season-high 17 kills to lead the Lady Warriors. She also recorded 16 digs and one service ace. Machella registered eight kills.

Myers handed out 15 assists and scored points on four service aces. Sharlow added 13 assists and two aces. Abel posted 17 digs.

Lycoming finished the match with 38 kills in 97 attempts.

The Lady Warriors will host Lebanon Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 7, in a Commonwealth match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lamade Gymnasium.
