WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s volleyball team (4-21, 0-1) fell to Baptist Bible on Monday, October 8 by a score of three games to none (16-30, 28-30, 23-30).
The visiting Lady Defenders stormed out of the gate in Lamade Gymnasium, winning 30-16 in the opening game, but the Lady Warriors were not about to go quietly on their home court.
Game two saw excellent blocking by freshman middle hitter Allison Lyke (Fort Washington, MD) and setter Abby Myers (Shippensburg, PA), who also compiled 24 assists on the night. A Lycoming miscue with the game tied at 21 shifted momentum to Baptist Bible, but the Lady warriors stayed focused and tied the game again at 26 on an ace by freshman McKenna Warren (Elmira, NY).
Outside hitter Heather Frantz (Pine Grove, PA) displayed her athleticism above the net, chalking up 10 kills for the match. She was particularly strong in games two and three. Junior Terra Erway (Coudersport, PA) also stepped up her game with extra power on her swings.
Lyke had several block points in the final game, while freshman Kelly Rose (Wilkes-Barre, PA) recorded five kills. She had a team-high 11 kills on the evening. However, the Lady Defenders were ultimately too much and triumphed 30-23 in the final frame, thanks in part to the thunderous right arm of junior Heather Stamper.
Lycoming hosts Albright College on Wednesday night at Lamade Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. match. After a short stint on the road, the Lady Warriors then return to Lamade for their final home match on October 24 against Elizabethtown.
