In 2007, Tim McMahon finished his seventh season as head coach of the Lycoming College volleyball program. From 2002 to 2006, McMahon led the Lady Warriors to five straight Freedom Conference championship matches. In 2006, they captured their second conference title in three years to advance to the NCAA tournament.

McMahon has an extensive background in officiating, having served as a volleyball referee since 1980. He also played and coached during that period as part of USA Volleyball, the governing body of volleyball in the United States. McMahon has played in many regional and national tournaments and has won multiple state titles.

McMahon is a member of the Professional Association of Volleyball Officials and is a USA Volleyball Keystone Regional Referee. During his tenure as an official, McMahon has worked matches for Penn State, Florida State, Bucknell, and Lock Haven, as well as all of the schools in the Middle Atlantic Conferences.

McMahon earned degrees in electronic technology (1976) and business management (1988) from Williamsport Area Community College (now Penn College). He also earned a degree in management of technology from Lock Haven in 1996.

McMahon currently resides in Montoursville with his wife Stephanie and their two children – Corinn and Brandon.
