WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s women’s and men’s swim teams held their annual banquet on Friday, April 4. Nine swimmers received awards for their achievements during the 2007-08 season. The four major awards given out were the Teammate Award, the Coaches’ Award, the Most Valuable Swimmer award and the Mort Rauff Award.
Candidates for the Teammate Award were voted on by members of the team and went to those who best exemplified the meaning of “teammate”. This year’s winners were freshman Joe Kuder (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) for the men, and senior Amanda Guminski (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) for the women.
The Coaches’ Award went to the one man and one woman to have shown the highest level of dedication to the team, a vision of what needed to be done and a will to improve. Their were three winners this year. Freshman Chad Lemmons (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) took home the award for the men, while freshmen Margaret Emery (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) and Michelle Pastrano (Claremont, CA/Vivian Webb School) were recognized from the women’s team.
The swim team this year awarded Most Valuable Swimmer awards to three swimmers who could be counted on to score points whenever needed and in multiple events. For the men’s team, freshman John Ryan Adamson (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) and sophomore John Dougherty (Mountain Top, Pa./Bishop Hoban) received the honor. Freshman Stacy Flick (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) was the winner from the women’s team.
This year’s ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Mort Rauff Award, which is given in memory of longtime Lycoming swimming coach Mort Rauff. The Rauff Award is the most prestigious honor presented at the banquet. It goes to the swimmer who has consistently demonstrated overall individual excellence and team spirit. This year, the very high honor was awarded to senior Maria Millen (Berea, OH/Berea).
