GRANTHAM, Pa. - Lycoming's softball team (1-11, 0-4) fell in two games against conference foe Messiah College (13-11, 3-1) on Saturday. The score of the opener was 9-0 in favor of the Lady Falcons, who then took the second contest 9-1.
Messiah came out big with the bats, winning both games in five innings. In the first contest, Lady Falcon junior Jenna Batchelor surrendered only two hits to shut out Lycoming and pick up her fourth win. Lady Warriors Jessica Nabholz (Cressona, Pa.) and Chelsea Stein (Red Lion, Pa.) had Lycoming's hits.
In the second game, Messiah used four home runs to claim victory. Lady Warrior Hilarie Powers (Wellsboro, Pa.) registered Lycoming's only hit and drove in Dana Marek (Bloomfield, N.J.) for the blue and gold's sole run, which came in the third inning. Lady Falcon Lana Trotter was 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI's, while freshman Becca Stackhouse collected four RBI's.
Lycoming hosts the University of Scranton for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 10 at 3 p.m. at Lycoming Field.
