WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s softball team (1-7, 0-2) lost both sides of a doubleheader to Commonwealth Conference opponent Widener (13-7, 2-0) on Sunday by scores of 12-2 and 7-1. It was the first conference competition for the Lady Warriors this season.
In the opener, senior Hilarie Powers (Wellsboro, Pa.) and freshman Amber Moyer (Cleona, Pa.) scored Lycoming’s two runs. Powers walked in the fourth inning and then scored on an RBI single by senior catcher Holly Billow (Millersburg, Pa.). Moyer doubled in the sixth, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.
In the second game, sophomore Jessica Nabholz (Cressona, Pa.) held the Lady Pride scoreless through two and two-thirds innings, giving up just one run through five innings. Widener exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth. Lady Warrior senior Dana Marek (Bloomfield, N.J.) singled and came around to score on a Nabholz single in the bottom of the sixth.
Widener’s Steph Connolly was 5-for-9 with nine RBIs for the doubleheader. She was 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs in the first game.
Lycoming travels to conference foe King’s on Monday. The doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
