Five Warriors named to men’s soccer All-Conference team

2008 All-Commonwealth Teams

Bald and LorenzetANNVILLE, Pa. – Juniors David Bald and Chris Lorenzet earned first team All-Commonwealth Conference honors, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Seniors Matt Frey and Joe Pusateri, along with junior Kyle Welsh, were named to second team plaudits.

Bald (Annapolis, Md.) earned first team honors at goalkeeper after setting the Lycoming single-season record for shutouts with 10. He finished the year with a .80 goals against average, ranking second all-time in Lycoming history.

Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md.) earned first team honors at forward after leading the Warriors in goals, assists and points. He finished the season with 14 goals and 36 points, ranking second in the league in both categories. He led the league in assists with eight helpers on the year. This marks the second-straight first team honor for Lorenzet.

Frey (Greensboro, Md.) earned second team honors at midfield after ranking second in the league in assists with seven. He finished the year with three goals and 13 points. Frey started in every game he played during his four-year career and leaves the program ranked second all-time in career assists with 29. This is his second All-Conference honor after being named to the first team last season.

Pusateri (Rockville, Md.), who played defense much of the season, earned second team honors at midfield. The senior co-captain finished the year with three goals and one assist for seven points. This is the second All-Conference honor for Pusateri, who was also named to the second team last year.

Welsh (North Wales, Pa.) earned second team plaudits as a defender. He finished the season with two assists and helped anchor one of the top defenses in the league. The Warriors allowed just 17 goals in 19 games this season and set a team record for shutouts with 10. The honor is the first for Welsh.

Lycoming finished the season with a 12-6-1 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the conference. The Warriors’ season ended in a 2-1 loss at No. 8 Messiah in the conference semi-finals.

Lycoming will return its top-four scorers and record-setting goalkeeper in 2009.

JB Binger of Messiah was named the Player of the Year, while teammate Derek Black was named the Rookie of the Year. Lebanon Valley head coach Charlie Grimes was named the Coach of the Year.
