WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming men's and women's soccer and men's lacrosse players and coaches, held a two-hour clinic for Rommelt Elementary fifth grade students on Friday. The South Williamsport elementary students were allowed to run on the field turf at Shangraw Athletic Complex as Lycoming players held basic drills at various stations.
Almost 200 students were coached by 10 Lycoming athletes and several coaches. Assistant athletic director Scott Kennell organized the event, which he hopes to do annually.
"It's great to give back to the community,” expressed Kennell, “It’s an excellent opportunity to teach young kids about different sports and to get our athletes into the community. Everybody has fun and the weather today was perfect.”
"The kids love coming out here and the athletes do such a good job of teaching the kids," said Rommelt fifth grade teacher Justine Cruz. "Today we completed a spring learning unit which incorporated sports as a theme."
