WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.–Lycoming’s men’s soccer team held its annual banquet Saturday, March 9. Several Warriors were honored for their accomplishments and the 2008 captains were named.
Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year Scott Kennell honored his five graduating seniors Rob Bailey (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), Ryan Humphreys (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes), Jordan Shettle (Etters, Pa./Trinity), Zach Tanner (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) and Joe Thomas (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson).
Tanner earned the Warriors’ Man of the Year award, after starting all 19 games in 2007. He netted two goals and one assist while anchoring the Warriors defense. Tanner earned first-team All-Commonwealth Conference in 2007.
The 2007 Most Valuable Player Award went to goalkeeper Humphreys, who recorded 62 saves and two shutouts this season. He also earned the lone first-team goalie spot on the 2007 All-Conference team.
Brian Haag (Mt. Laurel N.J./Lenape) took home the Rookie of the Year award for his outstanding freshman campaign. Haag scored nine goals and collected 18 points to finish second on the team in scoring. His five game-winning goals were tops on the team.
Lycoming’s Most Improved Player Award went to sophomore Dan Marcin (Wilmington, Del./Concord) who saw action in 19 games and netted one goal.
A pair of seniors-to-be, Joe Pusateri (Rockville, Md./St. John’s College) and Tom McVey (Jamison, Pa./LaSalle College), as well as two juniors-to-be, David Bald (Edgewater, Md./South River) and Zach Frederick (West Chester, Pa./St. Marks) were named captains for the 2008 season.
The Warriors finished the 2007 season with a 13-5-1 record and look to build upon their success in 2008. Along with the aforementioned captains, junior first-team All-Conference Chris Lorenzet will lead next year’s team.
