WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s soccer team has held a weekly clinic for U8 youth players for the past seven Saturdays at the Generations Sports Complex Dome. The Warriors, in coalition with the River Valley YMCA, taught the children various soccer skills and techniques from Feb. 16 through March 29.
"Being able to work with the kids was a great experience for all of us,“ said Lycoming junior captain Tom McVey (Jamison, Pa.). “Growing up, we all had older kids at some point that were willing to help us learn the fundamentals of the game. The community is a large supporter of our program and I am really happy that all of us were able to give a little something back, it's very rewarding.”
All-conference forward Chris Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md.) took a special perspective from the sessions. “I enjoyed working with the kids at the dome because I had the opportunity to revisit myself at 8-years-old and relive that most genuine form of happiness, enjoying this beautiful game as a child,” said Lorenzet.
"Its always exciting to get the opportunity to work with the next generation of soccer players," said goalkeeper and 2008 captain David Bald (Edgewater, Md.). "Seeing the enjoyment these kids get from playing the game is very rewarding."
“The players did a great job and the parents loved it,” said Dan Johnson, Director of Generations Sports Complex. “The parents and the kids were excited to get hands-on instruction from college soccer players."
Lycoming head men’s soccer coach Scott Kennell will hold his annual Youth Soccer Camp on June 23-27 at the College.
