PURCHASE, N.Y. - Lycoming's men's lacrosse team (7-3, 2-0) defeated conference foe Manhattanville (6-3, 0-2) on Saturday by a score of 13-4. It was the seventh-straight win for the Warriors and their second conference victory.
Lycoming's Nate Walter (Harrisbiurg, Pa.) and Dan Cannon (Orangeville, Ont.) scored four goals apiece, while Andrew Stoner (Orangeville, Pa.), Shea Conway (Glenelg, Md.), Jim Cusick (Garnet Valley, Pa.), Rick DeNenno (Landenburg, Pa.) and Steven Henz (Shoreham, N.Y.) each had one goal. Sophomore Michael Doherty (Berlin, Md.) won 13-of-19 face-offs and grabbed a game-high 12 ground balls.
Manhattanville goalie Andrew Predun made a career-high 26 saves, but Lycoming outshot the Valiants were 53-28 at GoValiants.com Field in both teams' second Middle Atlantic Conference game of the season. Warrior goalie Kyle Gilfoy (Exton, Pa.) made 15 saves for the win.
“It came down to ground balls and face-offs, which they dominated, and we were forced to play a lot of defense,” said Manhattanville head coach Todd Hodgson.
Lycoming put the ball past Predun 1:23 into the game when Cusick fired a shot past the Valiant goalie but upon a routine stick check by the officials, the goal was taken off the board when Cusick’s pocket was ruled too deep. The Warriors then proceeded to score six goals before the Valiants got on the board. Walter tallied three of the Warriors' first four goals, including the game-winner.
Lycoming hosts conference opponent Messiah at Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday, April 9 at 4 p.m.
