Three Lycoming College players have been named to the 2008 Middle Atlantic Conference Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Team. Senior Dan Cannon (Orangeville, ONT/Orangeville HS) is a first-team selection while sophomore Mike Doherty (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur HS) and junior Kyle Gilfoy (Media, Pa./Penncrest HS) are second-team honorees. In addition, Lycoming’s Brian Anken has been named the Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors to an overall record of 10-6 and 5-2 mark in the conference.
Cannon started all 16 games from his attack position and led the Warriors in goals (47), assists (44), total points (91) and shots on goal (109). He also tied for first on the team with three game-winning goals. During the seven MAC games, Cannon led the league in points per game (5.86) and assists per game (3.00). He was a second-team all-conference selection in 2007.
As a midfielder, Doherty started all 16 games and led Lycoming in ground balls with 177 and was 265-386 in face-offs. He also had three goals. In MAC competition, he led the conference in ground balls per game (10.86).
Gilfoy was the Warriors’ starting goalie in 15 games and finished the season with a 9-6 record. He logged 862 minutes, made 193 saves against 293 shots and had 53 ground balls. In MAC action, he tied for second in saves per game (11.86).
Anken, who is in his second season with the Warriors, led Lycoming to the semi-finals of the MAC playoffs this year. Last season, Lycoming finished 4-10 overall. In 2008 conference play, Lycoming led the MAC in goals per game (13.43), assists per game (9.14) and points per game (22.57).
