WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s lacrosse team (10-5, 5-2) defeated conference opponent FDU-Florham (4-9, 4-3) on Saturday by a score of 14-9. The win clinches home field advantage for the Warriors in the first round of the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs. Lycoming hosts Widener (8-7, 5-2) in a semi-final playoff game on Wednesday, April 30 at 4 p.m. at Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex.
Freshman Andrew Stoner (Orangeville, Ont.), senior Jim Cusick (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and sophomore Nate Walter (Harrisburg, Pa.) each had three goals for Lycoming. Stoner added two assists, while Cusick had one. Senior Dan Cannon (Orangeville, Ont.), who leads NCAA Division III with 6.08 points per game, notched five points on two goals and three assists.
Five-time MAC Goalie of the Week Kyle Gilfoy (Exton, Pa.) made a strong pitch for a sixth award by holding FDU to single-digit goals, while grabbing 16 saves. Face-off specialist Mike Doherty (Berlin, Md.), who leads the nation with 10.69 ground balls per game, scooped up eight for the day, while winning 16 of 23 face-offs. Doherty also scored his third goal of the season.
It was Senior Day for the Warriors, who celebrated the final regular-season game for Cannon, Cusick and midfielder John Stark (Lewisburg, Pa.), along with student-assistant coaches Tony Mackin and Justin Dixon.
