WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s lacrosse team (3-3) defeated SUNY-Maritime (3-1) by a score of 11-9 on Saturday at Shangraw Athletic Complex. Warrior midfielder Jim Cusick (Garnet Valley, Pa.) scored his 100th career goal at 9:08 in the first period.
Sophomore Ed Williams (Florham Park, N.J.) had a career-high five goals for the game, while senior attackman Dan Cannon (Orangeville, Ont.) recorded five assists. Lycoming goalie Kyle Gilfoy (Exton, Pa.) secured 12 saves during the afternoon.
Cannon served up Andrew Stoner (Orangeville, Ont.) 24 seconds into the contest and then found Williams 37 seconds later to put the Warriors up 2-0. SUNY-Maritime answered, but Cusick’s milestone goal, on an assist from Nate Walter (Harrisburg, Pa.), made the score 3-1. Stoner found the net again unassisted at 4:25 and Lycoming led 4-2 to end the opening quarter.
The Warriors outscored the Privateers 3-1 in the second period to make the score 7-3 at halftime. Freshman Ricky DeNenno (Landenburg, Pa.) put it between the pipes unassisted and Cannon fed both Williams and junior David Labagh (Elizabethtown, Pa.) before the break.
Both teams scored twice in the third quarter, with Williams converting off of a pass from Stoner and Cannon assisting DeNenno to make the score 9-5.
SUNY-Maritime made a run in the contest’s final quarter. Privateer Max Ferguson scored his team-high second and third goals of the day in the first two minutes of the fourth to make it a two-point game. However, Williams barreled through SUNY-Maritime’s defense to score two-straight unassisted goals and put the game out of reach.
Lycoming travels to Susquehanna on Wednesday, March 19 for a 4 p.m. face-off in Selinsgrove, Pa.
