LANCASTER, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s lacrosse team (0-2) fell at Franklin & Marshall (2-0) on Tuesday by a score of 15-9 in a non-conference night game.
The Warriors were led by senior attackman Dan Cannon (Orangeville, Ont.), who scored four goals. Senior midfielder Jim Cusick (Garnet Valley, Pa.) found the net twice and led the team with two assists, while freshman attackman Andrew Stoner (Orangeville, Ont.) and sophomore defender Shawn Lowman (Millersville, Md.) also scored once apiece.
Lycoming junior goalie Kyle Gilfoy (Exton, Pa.) had a busy night, recording 20 saves while facing a relentless Diplomat offense. Franklin & Marshall played two goalies, with each taking a half.
Warrior face-off specialist sophomore Mike Doherty (Berlin, Md.) won 15-of-26 face-offs for Lycoming, adding a bright spot to their second-straight loss to begin the season.
The Warriors were down 11-3 at halftime, but exploded in the third period and into the fourth to close the deficit to 12-8. Of the five-straight goals, Cusick and Cannon each scored a pair, while Stoner netted the other. Lycoming’s defense held the Diplomats scoreless for nearly 17 minutes of the second half, but F&M notched a man-up goal at 6:34 in the fourth to recapture the momentum.
The blue and gold played man-down for much of the game’s final seven minutes.
The Warriors travel to Dickinson on Wednesday, March 5, before returning to the friendly confines of Shangraw Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 8 for a noon match against Wells. The game will be followed by a women's lacrosse contest at 3 p.m.
