WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Incoming Lycoming College head men’s basketball coach Guy Rancourt was officially introduced to the campus community and local media at a press conference on Friday afternoon in the Jane Schultz Room of the Wertz Student Center.
Local newspapers, radio and television stations were on hand for the event, as well as members of the campus faculty and staff.
Rancourt, who was joined by his wife, Lindsey, and Stony Brook head coach Steve Pikiell, took the microphone and spoke about his decision to make the move from Division I to Division III and particularly to Lycoming.
Rancourt expressed his passion for the pureness of the game at the Division III level, citing an even playing field as one of the biggest attractions. He also spoke to the dedication of the Lycoming campus community toward training student-athletes to excel both on and off the court. Rancourt closed by noting that the blue-collar attitude and extremely dedicated work ethic of the Warrior athletes made the decision an easy one.
Rancourt publicly answered questions before conducting one-on-one interviews and enjoying a luncheon with local media.
“This was a great day for me,” said Rancourt following the event. “I felt so welcomed when I was here for my interview and that just carried over into today. It was a great feeling to see the community embrace both myself and my wife today. We’re really looking forward to becoming a part of the community.”
The Warriors posted a 17-10 mark last season en route to winning the regular season Commonwealth Conference title. All but two players from that squad will return this year, along with the addition of five already committed players.
Rancourt will begin work immediately, spending much of the summer on the recruiting trail.
