Lycoming’s men’s basketball team recently held its annual banquet where several players were recognized for their accomplishments during the 2007-08 season. Under the direction of head coach Don Friday, the Warriors finished the season with an overall record of 17-10 and earned the regular-season Commonwealth Conference title.
Senior swingman Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, Pa.) was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. He averaged 13.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season. A four-year starter, he finished his four-year career with 1,282 points, 397 rebounds and 171 assists. Morris was named first-team men’s basketball ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He also won the Middle Atlantic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year award for men’s basketball.
The Dutch Burch Award (Defensive MVP) went to Jemayne Nowlin (Gaithersburg, Md.), a junior business management major. He averaged 7.0 points per game and ranked second on the team with 32 steals. The award was presented by Burch, who served as Lycoming’s head coach for 32 years, and his son, Seth, a 1989 Lycoming graduate.
Sophomore guard James Oberlies (Philadelphia, Pa.) received the Coaches Award for most improved returning player. He played in all 27 games and averaged nearly 15 minutes per game off the bench.
Morris, Oberlies, juniors Eric Anthony (Wheeling, W.Va.) and Nick Ziegler (McSherrystown, Pa.) and sophomores Will Kelly (Williamsport, Pa.), Ethan Lee (Mifflinburg, Pa.) and Sebastian Sabella (Bayside, N.Y.) were all recognized as Academic Award winners.
Morris and David Wilson (Pottsville, Pa.) were recognized as the two seniors on the team. Wilson, a corporate communication major, averaged 10.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He ranked third on the team with 42 3-pointers. Wilson finished his four-year Warrior career as the all-time leading free throw shooter at .870 percent.
A special award was given to Regina Collins, Lycoming’s assistant dean of freshmen, for her outstanding support and commitment to the College’s men’s basketball team.
