CHESTER, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s basketball team (9-7) lost to Widener (15-2) by a score of 70-65 on Saturday in a conference game. The Warriors are now 1-1 in Commonwealth play.
Sophomore center Ricky Varnell (Patterson, N.Y.) came on strong at the end of the game to notch his first double double of the season. Varnell finished with team highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds for the afternoon.
Senior guard Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, Pa.) and sophomore point guard Eric Anthony (Wheeling, W.V.) scored 11 points apiece and combined for three of the Warriors’ four three-pointers for the game. Morris, senior David Wilson (Pottsville, Pa.) and junior Jemayne Nowlin (Gaithersburg, Md.) each grabbed six rebounds.
Lycoming held Widener’s Charlie Jones, who ranks third in conference scoring, to just 10 points. Pride forward Matt Sosna earned a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Warriors travel next to Messiah for an 8 p.m. conference game on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Lycoming then plays at home on Feb. 2 versus Commonwealth foe Albright at 3 p.m.
