WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s basketball team (5-3) defeated Susquehanna University (4-4) on Saturday, Dec. 8 by a score of 73-68 at Lamade Gymnasium. Five Warriors scored in double digits in a physical game riddled with fouls.
Lycoming sophomore point guard Eric Anthony (Wheeling, WV) led the Warriors with 16 points, while senior guard David Wilson (Pottsville, PA) scored 14 points. Junior forward Greg Sye (Chantilly, VA) put up 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds before fouling out late in the game. Three Warriors fouled out on the day.
Lycoming freshman forward Will Kelly (Williamsport, PA) gave head coach Don Friday valuable minutes off the bench, scoring 12 and grabbing five rebounds. The Warriors shot 89% from the foul line in the second half and Kelly was perfect from the charity stripe, hitting six of six. Senior Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, PA) converted seven of eight foul shots and finished with 11 points for the game.
Lycoming led 35-33 at halftime in a tight game. Sye notched 10 first half points, as did Crusaders Joel Patch and Kevin Cuff. Patch finished with 12 points, while Cuff scored 14. Senior Crusader Josh Robinson recorded 22 points on the afternoon.
Lycoming’s Wilson hit a three-pointer with 5:15 left on the clock to give the Warriors their first double-digit lead of the contest at 63-53. However, Susquehanna battled back and a Robinson three at 2:41 made it a 67-66 game. The Crusaders hung tight, but Kelly grabbed two rebounds and sank a pair of free throws, and Morris hit two more foul shots all in the final minute, to secure the victory.
Lycoming travels to Pitt-Bradford next Saturday and New Jersey City the following Monday before breaking for the holidays. The Warriors return to Lamade Gymnasium on Jan. 17 to host Penn State-Hazleton at 7 p.m.
