WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The city of Williamsport promotes itself as “College Town, Pa.” to prospective students and visiting families. And on Tuesday, November 20, cross town basketball rivals Lycoming College and the Pennsylvania College of Technology meet on the hardwood of Lamade Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. for this fourth annual College Town Clash.
The Warriors have won all four previous meetings, including a surprise match-up at the Albright Tournament last season. Lycoming won that meeting 63-49. At Lamade, Lycoming claimed a resounding 95-55 victory. Six Warriors reached double digit points, including then-freshman Ricky Varnell (Patterson, NY), who led the team with 15. Returning Warriors David Wilson (Pottsville, PA), Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, PA) and Brad Wilkinson (Piscataway, NJ) each sank a pair of three-pointers.
Penn College’s Tom Little led the Wildcats on the evening with 21 points, making 67% of his shots. Little, who is a junior this year, also snagged a team-high six rebounds for the game.
Three years ago, in their tightest battle, Lycoming withstood an emotional effort by the Wildcats to secure a 67-65 victory. Penn College kept it close with long range shooting and relentless pressure, aspects that they hope to repeat on Tuesday.
Added interest will surely be on Lycoming sophomore Billy Goodell and freshman Will Kelly. Both players are from Williamsport and played high school hoops at Loyalsock Township.
