WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s basketball team (3-1) defeated New Jersey City University on Monday, November 26 by a score of 68-56. After dropping their first game of the season, the Warriors have now won three straight by topping a fast Gothic Knight team.
Lycoming junior Jemayne Nowlin (Gaithersburg, MD) and senior David Wilson (Pottsville, PA) did an excellent job of slowing NJCU all-american Dana John. John scored 27, but was quiet for much of the second half as the Warriors grew their lead from 32-31 at halftime. Nowlin scored 16 second-half points on his way to 19 for the night, while Wilson notched 14 points, including 11 before the break.
Sophomore guard Eric Anthony (Wheeling, WV) and second-year big man Ricky Varnell (Patterson, NY) scored nine apiece on the night, while junior forward Greg Sye (Chantilly, VA) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Senior swingman Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, PA) grabbed an impressive seven rebounds, including six on the defensive end. His crashing of the boards was emblematic of the Warriors fire throughout the game. In contrast to the season opener, Lycoming played with focused intensity against NJCU and overcame a quality opponent.
The Warriors now travel to PSU-Harrisburg on Wednesday, November 28 for their first road contest. The match-up tips off at 7:00 p.m.
