COAL TOWNSHIP, Pa.— Lycoming graduate Joe Klebon ’76 gained his 500th career coaching victory on Dec. 28, 2007, as his Shamokin Area High School boys' basketball team defeated Southern Columbia 57-41.
As a senior cornerback at Lycoming, Klebon played on the top-ranked defensive football team in the nation in 1975. Klebon then began his basketball coaching career at Warrior Run High School in 1979. He took over Shamokin’s program and realized great success throughout the 1990s and into the 21st century.
"I have been fortunate to be blessed with outstanding players throughout my coaching tenure at both Warrior Run and Shamokin Area, along with equally great assistants," Klebon said.
Lycoming head basketball coach Don Friday calls Klebon “One of the outstanding coach’s, not only in Pennsylvania, but the nation. The Lycoming family is very proud of Joe’s milestone. His lessons on and off the court have benefitted countless young men and their families throughout the coal region.”
