WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming senior Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, PA) scored his 1000th career point against Elmira College on Tuesday night. Morris grabbed an offensive rebound and banked in a shot at 9:36 in the second half to reach the milestone. Unfortunately, Morris’ effort was not enough as the Soaring Eagles defeated the Warriors 77-71 in Lamade Gymnasium.
Morris finished the evening with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds, eight of which came on the defensive end. He also led the Warriors with four assists and added a steal. Guards David Wilson (Pottsville, PA) and Eric Anthony (Wheeling, WV) scored 16 and 13 points respectively, while big man Greg Sye (Chantilly, VA) notched 11 points.
For Elmira, Palen Andreozzi and John Adamson led the way with 14 points apiece. Adamson also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Lycoming was up 31-29 at the half, but with just over three minutes to play, Elmira had established a 13-point lead. However, the Warriors clawed back to within six points late in the contest. Lycoming hit six three-pointers in the game’s final 1:12, including two by freshman Sebastian Sabella (Bayside, NY), but the Soaring Eagles went 20-2 from the foul line in the second half, converting 15 straight during the Warriors three-point run.
Morris’ career milestone was bittersweet as Lycoming dropped its second straight game. The swingman recorded 26 points against PSU-Harrisburg last Monday night, sinking eight of ten from three-point land.
Last Season, Morris scored 322 points, including a team-high 59 threes. He notched 256 points as a sophomore and 347 points in his freshman campaign. He's on his way to another banner year this season and ranks as an Academic All-American candidate.
Lycoming plays again on Saturday when it hosts regional rival Susquehanna at 1:00 p.m. at Lamade Gymnasium.
