WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College senior Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity Catholic) has been named the 2008 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MASCAC) Scholar Athlete of the Year for men’s basketball. Morris was one of six conference players honored by the MASCAC. Each student-athlete represented a different winter sport. The MASCAC Awards Committee based its selection equally on academic record and athletic accolades.
Morris will graduate in May with a degree in political science and a minor in American history. He is a member of the national political science honors society Pi Sigma Alpha, and has made the dean’s list every semester at Lycoming. After college, he plans to attend law school.
His scholastic efforts as a senior earned him first-team ESPN the Magazine men’s basketball Academic All-District II, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Morris excelled on the basketball court as well as in the classroom. As a four-year starter for the Warriors’ men’s basketball team, Morris netted his 1,000th career point against Elmira College on Dec. 3, 2007. His career totals include 1,282 points, 397 rebounds and 171 assists, giving him career averages of 12.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per
game.
Morris played a vital part in helping Lycoming (17-10, 7-3) win the 2007-08 Commonwealth Conference regular season championship. He averaged 13.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the season.
He converted 32.9 percent of his shots from beyond the 3-point arc and finished with a total of 54 3-pointers in 2007-08. Morris was also efficient from the foul line, shooting 84.5 percent. He went to the line a total of 103 times, which was first on the team.
Following the 2007-08 season, Morris was named second-team All-Commonwealth Conference. In 2006-07, he was named Lycoming's co-MVP along with Greg Sye (Chantilly, Va.).
