WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s basketball team defeated conference foe Widener by a score of 75-68 on Saturday at Lamade Gymnasium. Before the game, both teams were involved in a four-way tie for first place in the Commonwealth.
In a fast paced contest, junior Greg Sye (Chantilly, Va.) and senior David Wilson (Pottsville, Pa.) led the Warriors with 16 points each. Sye grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while Wilson had six boards.
Sophomore point guard Eric Anthony (Wheeling, W.V.) scored 15 points, including three three-pointers. Senior Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, Pa.) put in twelve points for the game, making all four of his foul shots.
For the Pride, Charles Jones racked up 26 points, while Nyere Miller scored 21.
Lycoming sped up its offense to run with Widener from the beginning, building a 23-12 lead early in the game. The Pride came back to tie the game at 31, then grew a seven point lead and went into halftime up 38-33.
Widener stayed ahead for most of the second half until a Morris three with 1:33 left in the contest put Lycoming up 66-65. Two foul shots by Jones gave the Pride the lead back, but a Wilson three put the Warriors back up. Wilson, Anthony and Sye each hit a pair of free throws in the final 30 seconds to secure the win for Lycoming.
The Warriors now sit at the top of the Commonwealth rankings. Pending the outcomes of the Albright and Messiah games, Lycoming could hold first place alone or be tied with either team.
The Warriors next game is on Wednesday, Feb. 13, when they host conference opponent Messiah at Lamade Gymnasium at 8 p.m.
