The Coaches


ClarkWarrior first-year head coach Mike Clark (Lycoming ’93) carries a four game winning streak into today’s game and has opened his head coaching career with a 4-1 record. Clark, who also handles the offensive coordinator duties, has the Warriors averaging 348.00 yards of total offense per game.

 

 

SheptockWilkes is coached by Frank Sheptock (Bloomsburg), who is five games into his 13th season at the helm of the Colonel program. He has been a member of the staff since 1990. In 2006, he was named the MAC and regional Coach of the Year after leading the team to a final record of 11-1 and a berth in the NCAA playoffs. During his tenure, he has posted a career record of 79-53.

 

 

The Series

Today’s game is the 48th meeting between these two teams in a series that dates back to 1947. The Warriors hold a 33-14 all-time advantage, including a 7-3 edge in the last 10 meetings. The teams have split 2-2 in the last four meetings, including a Lycoming win in 2007.

The Last Time They Met


The last meeting between the two teams was played on Oct. 13, 2007, at David Person Field. Wilkes scored in the first quarter to lead 7-0. Lycoming scored on a five-yard pass from Tim Hook to Ryan Wagaman in the second quarter but missed the extra point. Wilkes connected on a field goal in the third to lead 10-6 before John Kleinfelter broke free on a 35-yard touchdown run. Josh Dixon provided some insurance with a 66-yard punt return to start the fourth quarter.

Last Time Out


WagamanLycoming improved to 2-0 in the MAC and 4-1 overall with a 23-13 win against Albright on Saturday, Oct. 11, at David Person Field. A Homecoming crowd of over 3,000 fans took in the game.

The Warriors scored the first 20 points of the game and held Albright out of the end zone in the first half.

Josh Kleinfelter started the scoring with an eight-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Colin Dwyer connected on a 34-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wagaman to put the Warriors up 13-0 at the half.

Chris Tribanas recovered a fumble in the end zone on Albright’s first possession of the second half to put the Warriors up 20-0. Scott Erikson capped the scoring with a 32-yard field goal.

Kleinfelter carried the ball 19 times for 132 yards and one touchdown to lead the Warrior ground game in compiling a total of 224 rushing yards.

Nick Reese led the defense with 12 total tackles and one interception. All four starting members of the defensive line finished with at least .5 sacks, headlined by Kyle Murren with 1.5 sacks in the game.

Scouting the Warriors


KleinfelterLycoming enters today’s game averaging 348.0 yards of offense per game and allowing just 249.4. The Warriors have outgained their opponents in each game this season.

Lycoming leads the league in every defensive category except pass efficiency defense. The Warriors rank 19th in the nation in total defense and fifth in sacks per game (4.20).

Josh Kleinfelter leads a rushing attack that tallies 155.4 yards per game. He has carried the ball 112 times for 575 yards and seven touchdowns while posting an average of 115.0 yards per game.

Colin Dwyer has completed 67-of-113 passes for 734 yards and six touchdowns while being intercepted seven times.

Brad Shellenberger leads the receiving corps with 20 catches for 348 yards and two touchdowns. He averages 17.4 yards per catch.

Ryan Wagaman has 17 catches for 163 yards with one score. Kleinfelter has 12 catches for 141 yards.

Ray Bierbach has handled the return duties after Josh Dixon suffered an injury. He has 11 punt returns for 155 yards and one touchdown and eight kick returns for 167 yards.

The defense is led by Chuck Bellitto with 44 total tackles, including 27 solo. He also has 1.5 tackles for a loss and one interception. Ben Rosa also has 44 total tackles with 2.0 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Ted Geurds leads the league in sacks with 6.0 for minus-40 yards and also has 8.0 tackles for a loss. Nick Reese has 27 total tackles and one interception. Kyle Murren has 6.5 tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks.

Post-Game Notes From Albright

Geurds and Licci sackSaturday was the first time all season that a team managed over 300 yards of total offense against Lycoming … the Warriors entered the game with the sixth-ranked total defense in the nation … nine completions and 19 pass attempts were both season lows for the Warriors, as was 126 passing yards … Saturday was the first time this year that Lycoming has failed to convert on 50 percent of its third-down conversions, going 3-of-10 in the game … Kleinfelter went over 100 yards for the third time this season … Wagaman’s catch was his first TD of the season … Lycoming’s win improved the Warriors to 31-16-2 in the all-time series with Albright, which dates back to 1957 … Albright won each of the last two meetings (40-7 in 2007 and 42-35 in 2006) … the Lycoming offense has tallied over 300 yards in every game this season … Lycoming has outgained its opponent in every game this season … the team currently has one win more than the total of three from 2007 … the win is the fourth in a row for the Warriors and is the sixth in a row at Person Field … attendance was listed at 3,219 on Saturday.

Reese Named Player of the Week


ReeseSenior defensive back Nick Reese was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Albright on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Reese earns his first MAC weekly honor after leading the Warrior defense with 12 total tackles against Albright, including seven solo stops. He also pulled down his first interception of the season and followed it with a 24-yard return.

 

Warriors Garner Votes in National Poll


Lycoming gathered two votes in the D3Football.com top-25 poll, making the list of teams earning votes for the first time this season. The only other team in the conference to earn votes is Delaware Valley. The Aggies rank 14th in this week’s poll.

Lycoming has not been nationally ranked since the preseason poll of the 2004 season.

 

Wilkes' Last Time Out

Wilkes picked up its first win of the season last Saturday, Oct. 11, with a 24-14 win against FDU-Florham in Madison, N.J.

The Colonels opend the scoring in the firs quarter with a one-yard Alex Pearson touchdown run, capping a six play 42-yard drive.

Florham answered back with a score in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7 before Wilkes answered with two scores.

First, Chris Horn connected on a 31-yard field goal and then Corey Gilroy returned a blocked punt 29 yards for a touchdown.

Florham answered again, this time with a 70-yard touchdown pass, to send the game to halftime with Wilkes leading 17-14.

Wilkes was able to hold Florham off the board in the second half and managed one scoring drive late in the fourh quarter to seal the win.

The Colonels totaled 295 yards of total offense to the Devils 248.

Harry Reese led the ground game with 16 carries for 95 yards. Pearson also carried the ball 16 times, totaling 35 yards and one score.

Quarterback Rob Johnson completed 8-of-17 passes for 80 yards and one score while fellow QB Ryan Cushman completed 4-of-8 passes for 47 yards.

Jordan D’Emilio caught five passes for 47 yards and Jason Prushinski had three catches for 28 yards.

Jimmie Ragland led the defense with eight total tackles.

Scouting the Colonels


The Colonels average 286.0 yards per game of total offense while giving up 357.2 yards per game.

The team averages 170.4 passing yards per game and 115.6 rushing yards per game while giving up 181.2 passing yards and 176.0 yards on the ground.

Reese leads the rushing attack with 57 carries for 233 yards and one touchdown. He averages 46.6 yards per game. Jamar Beverly has carried the ball 47 times for 205 yards and one touchdown. Wilkes has posted three rushing touchdowns on the season with the third coming from Pearson.

Rob Johnson guides the offense but has shared time with freshman Ryan Cushman at the quarterback position. Johnson has completed 61-of-115 attempts for 779 yards and seven touchdowns while being intercepted just once. Cushman is 6-of-15 for 73 yards and two interceptions.

Jason Prushinski is the leading receiver on the team, pulling in 23 catches for 366 yards and four touchdowns on the year. He averages 73.2 yards per game and 15.9 yards per catch.

Sean Madden ranks second on the team with 11 catches for 111 yards.

Kicker Chris Horn leads the team in scoringm connecting on 5-of-5 field goal attempts and 11-of-11 extra points. Punter Mario Della Fortuna has booted the ball 25 times for 981 yards, an average of 39.2 yards per kick.

The defense is led by Drew Letcavage with 55 total tackles.
