Clark announces incoming football players

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College head football coach Mike Clark released the names of 45 incoming players scheduled to join the Warrior football program this fall.

“We feel great about this class,” said Clark, a 1993 Lycoming graduate. “We have a lot of solid football players coming in and a lot of kids that we think can make an impact right away.”

The list includes two place kickers and a host of long snappers that Clark thinks could spark the special teams unit early in the season. Kickers Brady Sandercock (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) and Justin Livingston (Media, Pa./Glen Mills) both earned All-Area honors last season.

“One of the areas we need to focus on this year is special teams,” adds Clark. “If we can tighten things up in a few areas of special teams, we should win games this year.”

Two quarterbacks, Mark Alexander (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) and Paul Volpe (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge), are amongst the list of incoming players.

“We think Paul may have a chance to step in and provide some competition during the preseason,” said Clark. “Mark is a solid athlete and we may try him out at wide receiver or defensive back this year.”

Two fullbacks, Nick Milardo (Duncansville, Pa./Holidaysburg Area) and Phil Peterson (Villas, N.J./Lower Cape May) are both described as physical players that could make an impact.

Two tight ends, Terry Musser (Petersburg, Pa./Juniata Valley) and Seth Rolko (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), have also committed to Lycoming.

Eight wide receivers are scheduled to debut on the gridiron this fall, highlighted by Will Kelly (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock), who plays basketball for the Warriors. Kelly plans to do double-duty this year with the addition of football.

“We’re really excited about our incoming receivers,” said Clark. “Will is a kid with great size at 6-4 and 210 pounds and we have a lot of guys that will really help this year in our multiple receiver sets.”

The defensive line boasts the largest number of recruits this season with 10 newcomers scheduled to compete for the Warriors. The standouts in the class include Anthony Dinelli (Towanda, Pa./Towanda), Drew Gensimore (Centre Hill, Pa./Penns Valley), David Loats (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan), Tyler Hoffman (Clarence, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) and C.J. Hinson (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley).

The offensive line will boast six newcomers this fall, headlined by Tim Okken (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley).

The second highest number of incoming recruits will suit up at linebacker as nine newcomers have signed with Lycoming. Headlining that group are Anthony Marascio (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) and Tom Weaver (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley). Marascio earned All-State honors in his senior campaign and Weaver is described as one of the top prospects for the Warriors this fall.

The incoming class is rounded out by four defensive backs, who Clark describes as all solid athletes who will vie for playing time this season.

“Overall, we’re very pleased to have this many student-athletes joining us this year,” adds Clark. “We’re excited for camp to get here and to get the season under way.”

The Warriors will open the 2008 season at Ithaca on Sept. 6.
