Last Time Out
Heavy rain and wind made holding onto the football one of the keys to the Warriors 10-7 upset win over No. 22 Delaware Valley on Saturday, Oct. 25.
The Aggies scored on their first possession, but the Warrior defense, mixed with difficulty with the center exchange, kept them off the board for the remainder of the game.
Colin Dwyer capped the tying drive with a plunge into the end zone and Scott Erikson put the Warriors up with an 18-yard field goal in the third quarter.
There were 11 total fumbles in the game, with Delaware Valley responsible for seven of those.
Lycoming equaled Delaware Valley’s offensive yardage at 233.
Josh Kleinfelter contributed nearly half of the yardage, rushing 21 times for 75 yards and catching three passes for 41 yards.
Dwyer completed 12-of-20 attempts with one interception. Brad Shellenberger caught three passes for 43 yards.
The defense was led by Nick Reese, who finished the game with 13 total tackles, including 3.0 tackles for a loss. Ben Rosa recorded seven total tackles, including 1.0 sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss. Ted Geurds and Jared Strayer each recovered a fumble.

Weekly Honors for Erikson and Warriors
Scott Erikson and the Warrior football team earned weekly recognition after an upset victory against No. 22 Delaware Valley.
Erikson, a senior from New Providence, N.J., was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
With constant rain, winds over 20 miles-per-hour and messy field conditions that contributed to 11 total fumbles, Erikson was able to connect on a game-winning 18-yard field goal midway through the third-quarter to propel the Warriors past the Aggies, 10-7.
Lycoming, which hasn’t been nationally ranked since the preseason poll in 2004, earned eight points in the latest D3Football.com top-25 poll. The Warriors are the only MAC team in the poll after Delaware Valley dropped out of the rankings this week.
Post-Game Notes from the Delaware Valley Game
Saturday marked the first time all season that the Warriors did not outgain their opponent (233-233 after three kneel downs for minus five yards to end the game) … one turnover against the Aggies was the fewest in a game this season … the win was the first over Delaware Valley since 2002 … it was the first game of the season that the Warrior offense did not gain 300 yards … the defense held the opposition under 300 yards for the sixth time in seven games … Lycoming has now won seven-straight games at David Person field, dating back to last season … the College held a “Tackle Breast Cancer” event at the game, with the American Cancer Society handing out information and selling shirts to raise money for the fight against cancer … breast cancer survivors from Lycoming County were honored on the field at halftime … both schools wore pink ribbon stickers on their helmets.
A Warrior Win Today Would...
- Keep Lycoming in a two-way tie for first-place in the MAC
- Be the third-straight over FDU-Florham
- Be the sixth win of head coach Mike Clark’s career
- Be the 319th win in the history of the program
- Double the wins from last season (3-7 overall record)
- Improve the Warriors to 18-5 in the series against FDU-Florham
In the Driver’s Seat
Lycoming is the lone team in the conference that controls its destiny. If the Warriors win out, they will win the MAC and advance to the NCAA Playoffs. Lebanon Valley and Albright are tied with the Warriors right now. The Dutchmen and the Lions play on Saturday. Lycoming already holds the tie-break over Albright and will host Lebanon Valley in the final game of the season.
Lycoming has not been in the NCAA playoffs since 2003, when the Warriors defeated East Texas Baptist in the opening round before dropping a 13-9 decision to Bridgewater in the quarterfinal round.
