Cross country competes at Misericordia Cougar Classic

Robert HolmesDALLAS, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action for the third time this season when they traveled to the Misericordia Cougar Classic on Saturday, Sept. 20.

The men’s team finished in eighth-place with the women’s team claiming ninth-place in the 10-team invitational.

The Warrior men were led by sophomore Robert Holmes (Oxford, Mass.), who finished the 8,000-meter course in 30:54, good enough for 55th place overall. This was the first week Holmes has been the men’s top finisher.

Junior Steven Brown (Lock Haven, Pa.) was the next across the line (63rd, 31:36), followed by Tim Aulett (Warminster, Pa., 67th, 32:08), Scott Boyles (Williamsport, Pa., 73rd, 32:47) and Robert Wiechecki (Garnet Valley, Pa., 77th, 33:28).

Also finishing for the men’s team was Tim Miller (Landsdowne, Pa., 89th, 35:34) and Anthony Pilla (Milford, Pa., 91st, 36:10). Kevin Lasko (Rockville, Md.), Eric Guth (Mohnton, Pa.) and Paul Laue (Trumansburg, N.Y.) finished 96th, 97th and 98th, respectively, with Lasko crossing in 37:22, Guth in 37:38 and Laue in 38:15.

Lycoming finished with 238 points. Ithaca College won the meet with 23 points.

For the third time this season, junior Kari Smith (Corning, N.Y.) led the women’s team. She covered the 5,000-meter course in 22:37, finishing 57th overall. Alex Rinaldi (Sellersville, Pa.) was the next to cross the line, finishing in 79th place with a time of 25:35.

Holly Andrews (Plymouth, Pa.) placed 85th in 27:48, followed by Gillian Robbins (Mt. Holly, N.J.) in 89th at 28:43 and Chelsea Holbert in 93rd with a time of 33:31.

The Lady Warriors finished with a team score of 284 points. Ithaca College won the meet with a score of 28 points.
