WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.–Seniors Megan Wallenhorst (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) and Matt Miller (Muncy, Pa./Montgomery), and junior Greg Sye (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) were honored at the 2008 Lycoming College Honors Convocation for their athletic and academic performances and contribution to the College. The event was held in Lamade Gymnasium and also included the presentation of departmental, faculty, scholarship, leadership and service awards.
Wallenhorst was named Lycoming’s 2007-08 Most Outstanding Female Athlete. She is the leading scorer for the women’s lacrosse team and has been named the Lady Warriors’ Best Offensive Player for three years running. This season she scored her 200th career goal, which is a Lycoming record, and broke the school record for most points with her 235th on March 29. She has been named MAC Player of the Week twice this season. After her junior year, Wallenhorst was awarded Division III All-America honors by womenslacrosse.com and IWLCA All-Regional honors. Before the beginning of the 2008 season, she was recognized on Inside Lacrosse’s DIII pre-season All-America squad. Wallenhorst won the College’s Sol “Woody” Wolfe Award last year, which goes to the Lycoming athlete that has shown the most improvement in intercollegiate competition in his/her first three years.
Matt Miller was named Lycoming’s 2007-08 Most Outstanding Male Athlete. As a 197-pound wrestler in 2007-08, he claimed the NCAA Division III National Championship, the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference championship, the 2007-08 ECWC Wrestler of the Year award and a perfect 20-0 senior record. He was crowned national champion after defeating defending national champion T.J. Miller of Wartburg College in the NCAA final. He is the College’s first individual wrestling national champion since Royce Eyer won the 2001 NCAA tournament at 157 pounds. Miller was named the ECWC Wrestler of the Week twice this year and finished his Lycoming career with a
62-21 record.
Greg Sye was honored with the Sol “Woody" Wolfe Award for excellence as a junior athlete. Sye, a forward on the men’s basketball team, averaged 10.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in 2007-08 to help the Warriors capture this year’s Commonwealth Conference regular season championship. He earned second-team All-Commonwealth Conference and made the Commonwealth Player of the Week honor roll twice this season.
