WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s head men’s basketball coach Don Friday has been named the 2007-08 Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year. This honor marks the second time Friday has received Coach of the Year. His first came in 2004-05, following his second season with the Warriors. Lycoming is 83-48 (.634) during Friday’s five years as head coach.
In 2007-08, Lycoming (17-9, 7-3) went 7-1 to close the season, including six-straight conference wins, to claim the Commonwealth’s regular-season title. On Wednesday, the Warriors defeated Lebanon Valley 71-56 in the conference semi-final game and will play Widener on Saturday, March 1 at 3 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium for the Commonwealth championship. The Warriors won the 2003-04 Freedom Conference title in Friday’s first year.
Before coming to Lycoming, Friday served as assistant basketball coach at Bucknell University for nine years under Pat Flannery. During his tenure at Bucknell, Friday coached 16 all-league players and a defense that was consistently ranked No. 1 in the Patriot League
Friday graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 1990 and began his coaching career there under the leadership of Flannery. Friday was on staff for Lebanon Valley’s 1993-94 NCAA Division III National Championship season.
