Learning Goals
Students who major in studio art can expect to achieve the following learning goals:
Technical competence within a given medium and apply that competency to build a cohesive body of work
Analyze visual material for content, technique, and formal concepts of design and then apply that to artistic research
Gain research techniques and be able to write essays on individual artists or movements and be able to connect their own artwork into the larger conversation of contemporary art
Create a professional presentation of work in a gallery setting or other public space including a demonstration of proper gallery installation and lighting
Gain professional practices as it relates to the career of an artist including clearly written artist statements and the knowledge and materials necessary to apply for exhibitions and art related jobs
Students who major in art history can expect to achieve the following learning goals:
Gain a foundation knowledge of the visual arts in their historical context
Learn a concentrated knowledge of several historical periods of art
Gain a thorough knowledge of one area in depth
Learn art history methodology
