Dr. Pamela Gaber is the Archaeologist directing the dig at Idalion Cyprus, and is visiting Asst Prof of Religion here teaching Rel 401: Field Archaeology.

Robin Van Auken is teaching North American Archeology in the History Dept. and Desktop Publishing in Communications.  She has directed May Term digs locally at Canfield Island, Thomas Lightfoote Inn, the Snyder Site, and the Muncy Canal with the local chapter of the Society for PA Archeology and the local Historical Museums.
 

 

 

 

Class of 2000 -

  Margaret Cohen is visiting instructor in Religion, teaching Old Testament, New Testament, and Hebrew in a Sabbatical Replacement position.  She is a doctoral student in Hebrew Bible at Penn State, with extensive excavation experience at Megiddo and in Egypt.

A double major in Archaeology and Religion, Marcus was the recipient of the 2000 Religion and Archaeology Award and the Eduardo Guerra Prize in Biblical Languages for Greek. Marcus is currently preparing for a career in Optometry, following a stint volunteering with Green Thumb. 

Sarah Rayner was so enchanted with Egypt after her 1999 Ashkelon dig that she decided to transfer to the American University at Cairo.

Class of 2002 -
Colin Casler at the 2001 Athienou Cyprus dig,  expenses paid by a grant from the NSF.

Colin graduated last year with a double major in Archaeology and Religion, with special interest in Classical and underwater archaeology.  Colin is nearing completion of a masters degree in classical archaeology at the University of Glasgow, following a stint of employment doing archaeological work in Maryland at Historic St. Mary's City. He plans to participate in an archaeological survey of Sardinia in the fall.  Congratulations!

Holly graduated with a triple major in Astronomy, Physics and Archaeology.  She was the recipient of the Eduardo Guerra Prize in Biblical Languages for Hebrew in 2001, and the Faculty Prize in Archaeology and Religion in 2002 (along with other prizes in Physics and Astronomy). At last sighting she was studying Arabic at the Language Institute, planning to go into intelligence work for the Army.

Tressa graduated with a double major in Archaeology and Religion plus a minor in Philosophy, and is currently in a graduate program studying Buddhism at the Naropa Institute in CO. Congrats!

 

 

 
Class of 2003 - Jesse Thompson picked up a minor in Archaeology along with his major in Computer Science.  He dug at Idalion in 2001.

Michele transferred in from Tel Aviv University in Israel to finish her Archaeology Major here, along with picking up a minor in Art History.  She is a veteran dig supervisor as well as a former editor of the Megiddo Newsletter and the journal Tel Aviv. Michele worked on our archaeology study collection of pottery, as well as the library display.  She was also the winner of the 2003 Guerra Prize in Biblical Languages for Hebrew.  She supervised at the Idalion dig in 2003 and tutored in Hebrew the next year.

Allison graduated with honors as a double major in History and Archaeology.

 

Shannon Wilson dug at Idalion Cyprus in 2001.
She graduated with honors a year early with a double major in Archaeology and Art History plus a Religion minor, won the Faculty Prize in Archaeology, worked on the slide database and library display along with being the volunteer coordinator for the Idalion dig, and did an internship at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh.  She's doing an M.A. program in Art History at Temple.

Steve graduated with a double major in Religion and Archaeology.  He served Lycoming as a STAR, president of the Student Senate, and in many other ways.  He received the McDowell Prize as an aspiring minister, as well as the Pax Christi and Service to Lycoming Awards.  Following graduation he did an internship at the PA house of representatives.   

 
Class of 2004 -


 

Jennifer Hochman finished her double major in Archaeology and Soc/Anthro plus a minor in Art History a semester early as a Scholar, and was our Archaeology and Hebrew tutor at the Academic Resource Center as well as an assistant grader for Religion. She did a summer fellowship program in Bio-Cultural Anthropology at Notre-Dame, and has special interests in Egyptology, Art History, and Museum work.

Jennifer Eaton is a working on a double major in Archaeology and History, and thinking about adding a minor in Religion.  She had work-study positions at the Lycoming County Historical Museum and library, and did a paid internship with the PA Historical & Museum Commission in summer 2003.

Travis Brenchi is preparing for a double major in Philosophy and Archaeology, planning to go on for graduate study in Philosophy.  So why study archaeology and Hebrew?  "Just because it's fun!"

 

Jessica Kaiser transferred in from Penn State to do her major in Archaeology here.  She dug locally in May 2003 on Canfield Island and interned at the U.Penn. Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in summer 2004.
 

Ann Runnels was a Religion major and full-time pastor, but she dug on Canfield Island in May 2003.  She won the McDowell Prize for aspiring ministers in 2004.
Class of 2005 -      
Laura Taylor graduated as class valedictorian with education certification plus double majors in Archaeology and History, winning top prizes in both departments.  She was also our 2002 winner of the Guerra Prize for Greek.  She was also a "STAR" and a Greek tutor.  She dug at Idalion in 2003.  She plans to teach at the elementary level. Jill Parker completed the Scholar program with a double major in Art and Archaeology, and helped spruce up the pottery display in the library.  She dug at Idalion in 2003, supervised at Idalion in 2004 and 2005, and helped with Greek tutoring.  She is now in a Masters Program at U.Mass. Amherst in Art History. Jessica Martin transferred in from SUNY to study Archaeology and History at Lycoming.  She did internships at the Vanderbilt Museum on Long Island and the Museum of Natural History in NYC.  She now works at the Ripley's Believe-it-or-not Museum in Atlantic City.
Katie John completed a double major in Archaeology and Religion, with a minor in History. She was an ARC tutor for both Greek and Religion, and won the 2005 Faculty Prize for Religion.  She dug at Idalion in 2003.  She is pursuing graduate study in social work.  
 

Rachel Blaasch transferred in to do Classical Archaeology, Creative Writing and Art History.  She did a fall semester studying abroad in England (hanging out at the British Museum) and dug at Idalion in 2004.  Since graduation, she has been doing contract archaeology in Florida and elsewhere.

Sean Reese is majoring in Archaeology with a minor in Environmental Science, interested in pursuing Forestry and working for the National Park Service in developing educational programs.  He dug locally in May 2003 at Canfield Island
Ashley Becker has a special interest in History and Anthropology that she plans to combine with her major in Archaeology.  She worked for the Blair County Historical Society in 2003. Nicholas Roberts completed a double major in Theater & Archaeology, worked at the local Historical Museum, and dug at Idalion in 2004.  Look out Discovery Channel!
 
Stephanie Moreira combined Archaeology with an interest Creative Writing and Biblical Languages.  She dug at Idalion in 2003.

Nicole Nasuti majored in Art with a minor in Archaeology.  She is now working on an M.S. in Library Science at Clarion University.

Class of 2006 -    
Lee Zelewicz combined his majors in Anthropology and Music with a minor in Archaeology to study "Ethno-Musicology" at the University of Arizona graduate school.  He dug locally in 2003 on Canfield Island, in digging in May term and then teaching an archeology class in College for Kids.  He also worked in contract archaeology for a summer, and interned at the Smithsonian in D.C. using cathodoluminescence to study the Bayon sculptures from Angor Wat, Cambodia. 

Stephanie Wanek signed on for a double major in Archaeology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Anthropology.  She dug at Idalion in 2003, finishing up as a supervisor - and then came back for another two years of supervising in 2004 and 2005 - wow!  She won the 2006 Faculty Prize for Archaeology.  She is now working on a Masters Degree in Classics and Mediterranean Archaeology at SUNY Albany.
 
Derek Whitman found a work-study position at the Lycoming County Historical Museum as a first-semester freshman in Archaeology, then went on to dig in Israel at Tel Rehov (under Amihai Mazar) in 2005.  He hopes to work in the Peace Corps after graduation.
Nicole Paterson combined History and Archaeology as her majors, and dug at Idalion in 2004.  In 2005 she went back to act as Registrar for the dig. Mark Ross majored in Archaeology, and dug with Binghampton Univ at Castle Gardens in Vestal NY in 2005.

Pat Bierly majored in Archaeology and History, along with completing certification in education.  He dug at Idalion in 2004 and 2005.
Adam Brown majored in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Archaeology.  He plans to go to graduate school for Palaeo-ethno-botany at the University of Hawaii. Austin Joy majored in Art History with a minor in Archaeology.  He dug at Idalion in 2005. Janalee Hedges hails from Texas. She studied Archaeology, History and Religion, and dug at Idalion in 2004.  
Class of 2007 -      
Jason Zan double majored in Archaeology and Religion.  He headed up the archaeology slide database project and dug at Gezer in Israel in 2006 and 2007. He is now going for a masters in Archaeology at Southwestern.   Aloys Rode double majored in Archaeology and Religion with a minor in Anthropology.  He dug at Gezer in Israel in 2006 and worked as a tutor in Hebrew.  
Lindsay Vosburg double majored in Archaeology and History with minors in Biblical Languages and Art History.  She studied abroad in Rome in fall 2005, dug in Egypt with Penn State in 2006 and at Gezer in Israel in 2007.  She won the Faculty Prize for Archaeology in 2007 as well as the Ewing and Mix prizes in History. She is now off to graduate school at U.Memphis for an M.A. in Egyptian Art and Archaeology, funded by a Phi Kappa Phi fellowship.   Meg Strong double majored in Archaeology and Art History, and dug in Egypt with Penn State in 2004.  She completed an Honors Project in Archaeology and worked as an archaeology tutor.  She is now off to graduate school at U.Memphis for an M.A. in Egyptian Art and Archaeology.  
Meghan Engelman is working on a triple major in Archaeology, Philosophy, and French.  She dug at Idalion in 2005, and is now off to law school at Penn. State. Chelsey Clark completed a major in Biology major with a minor in Archaeology, and is now off to Mortuary School. Jennifer Weston plans a triple major in Archaeology, History and Psychology.  She dug at Idalion in 2004 and 2005, and plans to enter the Peace Corps.  
Celeste Purosky double majored in Archaeology and Anthroplogy, with a minor in Religion.  She dug at Idalion in 2005. Laura Maschuch majored in Religion along with minors in Biblical Languages and Archaeology. Tom Courtney has interests in Archaeology, Theater, and Psychology.  He dug at Idalion in 2004. Malorie Cease majored in Archaeology with minors in History and French.  She dug at Historic St. Mary's City in Maryland in 2005.
Kent Hayden majored in Religion with minors in Biblical Languages and Archaeology.  He won the faculty prize for Religion in 2007 as well as the McDowell Prize for ministry, and is now pursuing an M.Div. at Princeton Theological Seminary, planning to go into Ministry. Katherine Kressler majored in Chemistry with a minor in Biblical Languages.  She won the Guerra Prize for Greek in 2004. Joel Krauser completed a double major in Archaeology and Religion. He dug locally in May 2003 on Canfield Island.

Class of 2008 -      
Alison Hamblin is working on a double major in Archaeology and Art History.  She dug at Gezer in Israel in 2006.   Kelly Szpara created her own major in Classical Studies to accompany her Archaeology major.  She won the 2006 Guerra Prize for Greek. She dug in Greece in 2007. Nathan Ott is double-majoring in Archaeology and Art History.  He interned at a museum in Rochester NY in summer 2006.
Sara Quinlan in majoring in Archaeology with a minor in Biology.  She dug at Gezer in Israel in 2006.   Darlene Holt is working on a triple major in Archaeology, History, and Religion.  She presented a paper at a professional conference of the Society of Biblical Literature in spring 2006, and dug at Gezer in 2007. Sarah Fall is working on a double major in Archaeology and Anthropology.  She got some experience in "contract archaeology" in New Jersey over the summer in 2006.
Brian Johnson is working on a double major in Archaeology and Anthropology.  He dug at Gezer in Israel in 2006.   Shane Hicks-Lee is working on a double major in Archaeology and Religion with a minor in Biblical Languages.  He presented a paper at a professional conference of the Society of Biblical Literature in spring 2006, and is considering ministry. Jennifer Prince is working on a double major in Archaeology and History.  She is studying abroad in Ireland for fall 2006, learning about Irish history, archaeology and culture.
Marcella Barbosa hails from California and plans a double major in Archaeology and History. She won the Guerra Prize for Hebrew in 2007 and then went off to dig at Gezer in Israel.    Stephani Crecelius hails from Minnesota and plans a major in Archaeology. Sam Daniel plans a double major in Archaeology and Religion with a minor in Art History.  He traveled to Vietnam and Cambodia in May Term 2006 and runs the REAL web site. He dug at Gezer in Israel in 2007.
Nick Reed plans a double major in Archaeology and French. Greg Lang plans a double major in Archaeology and History with a minor in Art History. Sabreina Slaughter plans a double major in Archaeology and English Literature. She won an NSF scholarship to dig in Hawaii in 2007. Shannon Soimes is majoring in Archaeology and History.
Sarah deRosa plans a double major in Archaeology and History with a minor in Theater.  She dug in Spain in 2007. Kristina Small plans a double major in Art and Archaeology with a minor in French. Cole Younger plans a double major in Archaeology and History with a minor in Art History.  
Peter Via won the 2005 Guerra Prize for Hebrew, and has been working as a Hebrew tutor this year.  He is planning on Medical School. Janet McGlade is majoring in History with a minor in Archaeology.  She has been working as a tutor for Archaeology. Jada Faulkner plans a major in Psychology with an Archaeology minor.  
Class of 2009 -      
Kirsten Darby plans a double major in Religion and Archaeology.  She is a tutor for both. She dug at Gezer in 2006 and won a Phi Kappa Phi travel fellowship to study abroad in Berlin, including an internship at the Berlin Museum. Heather Rardin attended the ASOR annual meeting in 2005 and dug in Egypt with Penn State in 2006. She is working on the Archaeology Slide Database Project. Lesley Haines came here from China and plans a double major in Archaeology and History.  She attended the ASOR annual meeting in 2005.  She dug at Gezer in 2007 and is interested in underwater archaeology. Jestie Higgins plans to double major in Archaeology and Religion.
Michelle Burpoe plans a double major in Archaeology and Art History. Kevin Lasko plans a double major in Archaeology and History, and hopes to travel to Egypt in 2007. Brittany Timko plans a double major in Archaeology and Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Scott Hawk is double majoring in Archaeology and Religion.
