Reason for digging the excavation: I always thought archaeology
was interesting, even as a little kid, however I never pursued any
archaeological pathways… until now. Robin Van Auken presented me with
the opportunity to join her Introduction to North American Archaeology
with the promise to further educate myself in local archaeology and the
chance to be in the field digging. Actually, it was supposed to be
"fun in the sun," but instead we had "fun in the
rain" for 95 % of the class days.
Highlight of your field school: The best part of field school was
being in the pits with everyone digging. It's pretty interesting how
many death threats can be proposed in a 6 hour period, but I guess
that's what happens when you cram 12 people into a 5' wide by 30' long
trench. Everybody made the class a lot of fun and the field school a
little more interesting.
Assessment of your experience: I thoroughly enjoyed my temporary
experience as an amatuer archaeologist. I learned a lot about field
methods in archaelogy and how anal retentive a lot of the measurements
and grids are supposed to be. If given a second chance, I would
definitely do it again.
