Canfield Island Dig, 2003

Lycoming College archaeology students along with instructor and archaeologist Robin Van Auken joined the North-Central Chapter of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology  and the Lycoming County Historical Society Museum for the May 2003 summer field school.

The dig site was located on Canfield Island in Riverfront Park along the Susquehanna River in Loyalsock.  This dig continued an investigation of the historic and pre-historic cultures of Canfield Island, already begun in previous digs on the island.

Here's a fun photo-directory of our students on the dig, soon with links to other interesting info.

A write-up of the local SPA Chapter's excavation methods for the dig may be found at http://www.lycoming.org/LCHSMuseum/archpub.html.
