The Rising Sun Armchair was handmade and donated by Gene Landon ’57. It is one of two replicas he fashioned of the 18th century Rising Sun Armchair used by George Washington during the 1787 Constitutional Convention. Dr. John Templeton Jr. commissioned Landon to handcraft an exact replica to be displayed permanently in the Constitution Center in Philadelphia. The original chair and one replica are in Philadelphia on display and cannot be touched. However, Templeton gave Landon permission to create a second exact replica for Lycoming which you have the opportunity to sit in during Homecoming 2012!

9:30 to 10:30 a.m. "Marcellus Shale Gas and our Energy Future"- Jonas Room, Wertz Student Center

Marcellus Shale gas extraction may be the most polarizing issue we’ve ever faced in Central Pennsylvania.  Supporters claim that Marcellus drilling has created thousands of jobs and put Williamsport on the map as a center of energy.  Critics snap back that Marcellus drilling creates environmental risks and social costs that are unacceptably high, and that gas drilling is a boom-bust event that may be here today and gone tomorrow.

Join Arthur Sterngold for a discussion about the costs and benefits of Marcellus Shale gas development and its role in the nation's overall energy picture.

Arthur Sterngold is an Associate Professor of Business who teaches a course about energy alternatives.  In the last few months, his articles about Marcellus-related issues have been published in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Williamsport Sun-Gazette and the Pennsylvania Business Central, and he’s taught two seminars about energy issues at the J.V. Brown Library.  Before pursuing an academic career, Sterngold worked in advertising, environmental planning and economic development.  He’s a graduate of Princeton, Northwestern and Penn State Universities.
