LYCOMING ANNOUNCES EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES
In recognition of Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, Lycoming College will host several events during its “Earth Week” celebration. The events are sponsored by the College’s Lycoming Environmental Awareness Foundation, Clean Water Institute, FLYCO, Lycoming’s fly-fishing club and Lycoming’s chapter of Amnesty International.
Earth Week is the latest effort at the College to promote sustainability and environmental awareness. In November, the College received a $15,000 grant from the Sustainable Energy Fund as part of its Solar Scholars™ Program to aid in the installation of an 18-panel, 3 kW solar array on top of the Heim Science Building. In addition, Lycoming has introduced a minor in environmental sustainability. Sodexho, the College’s food service provider, recently discontinued the use of trays in the cafeteria to reduce the amount of waste produced by those who dine there and limit the amount of soap, water and natural gas used to clean the trays.
