Incoming Freshman Student Scholarships
In addition to the Lycoming Grant program (need-based), Lycoming College offers over $7 million each year in scholarships to academically talented students.  First-year students are automatically considered for all academic scholarships - there is no special application.  All academic scholarships are automatically renewed for the following year provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress as defined in the College Catalog.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Trustee Scholarship ~ $18,000 per year ~ Students who rank 1st or 2nd in their class (of 30 or more students) at the end of their junior year of high school are eligible for this scholarship.

Faculty Scholarship ~ up to $18,000 per year ~ Students with a GPA of 3.65 on a 4.00 scale and a total SAT score (math, critical reading and writing sections) of 1950 (ACT composite score of 29) or above are eligible for this scholarship. Interviews with the Dean of the College and a faculty department chairperson are required, but a minimum of $16,000 will be awarded to all qualifying candidates who enroll at Lycoming.  Interviews can be arranged through the Office of Admissions and must be completed by March 14, 2008.  

Departmental Scholarship ~ up to $15,000 per year ~ Students with a GPA of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale and a total SAT score (math, critical reading and writing sections) of 1800 (ACT composite score of 27) or above are eligible for this scholarship. An interview with the appropriate departmental chairperson is required, but a minimum of $13,000 will be awarded to all qualifying candidates who enroll at Lycoming.  Interviews can be arranged through the Office of Admission and must be completed by March 14, 2008. 

Dean’s Scholarship ~ $6,000 to $12,000 per year ~ Students with a GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale and a total SAT score (math, critical reading and writing sections) of of 1500 (ACT composite score of 22) or higher are automatically considered for this scholarship. 

LEADERSHIP AWARD

Offered to a select group of incoming students whose high school curriculum is challenging and who have demonstrated leadership and service backgrounds, and who are likely to contribute to the Lycoming College Community. This award is typically awarded to students who do not qualify for one of our traditional scholarships or grants. Amount will vary based on student's state of residency and involvement in leadership and community service.

TALENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Music Scholarship ~ $1,000 - $3,000 per year ~ Students with an interest in vocal or instrumental music and the intention of performing at Lycoming are invited to audition with faculty from the Music Department.  In addition to scales, students will be asked to perform two contrasting pieces.  Depending on experience, students may also be asked to sight read.  Auditions are conducted on Monday and Friday afternoons and during Open House programs.  Call the Office of Admission for details.

Art Scholarship ~ $1,000 - $3,000 per year ~ Students intending to major in art are encouraged to apply for the Lycoming Art Scholarship.  Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a portfolio review by faculty from the Art Department.  Typical portfolios include 10-15 pieces of original work.  A review will also include a tour of the art facilities.  Portfolio reviews are scheduled during Open House programs and throughout the academic year.

Theatre Scholarship ~ $1,000 - $3,000 per year ~ Students planning to pursue a major or a minor in theatre are encouraged to audition with faculty from the Theatre Department.  Students with a talent for acting will be asked to perform two memorized contrasting excerpts from scripts of choice - one comedic and one serious selection about three (3) minutes in length each; Shakespeare excerpts should NOT be used for the audition.  Directing and technical theatre students will be asked to show a portfolio of past work.  Auditions and portfolio reviews will also include a tour of the theatre, costume shop, and set workshops.  Auditions and portfolio reviews are scheduled during Open House programs and throughout the academic year.

Creative Writing Scholarship ~ $3,000 per year ~ Students intending to major in creative writing may apply for one of six renewable Creative Writing Scholarships.  To be considered, please submit 5 poems and/or a short story not to exceed ten pages to the Office of Admission.

Community Service Scholarship ~ $3,000 per year ~ Students who have participated in community service projects and wish to continue to do so at Lycoming may apply for one of three Community Service Scholarships.  All accepted applicants will be mailed an application in early February. 

Please note:   Interviews, auditions, portfolio reviews and/or submissions must be completed or received by March 14th. Please make all appointments through the Office of Admission at 1-800-345-3920. Students wishing to be considered for academic scholarships may submit SAT or ACT scores through the January test administration.
