Academic success for each of our students is the goal of every
member of the Lycoming College faculty. For that reason if a student
experiences difficulties in one of his/her classes, he/she should
immediately contact one of his/her professors for guidance. The
professor is always the best person to evaluate a student’s performance
and to contact for advice pertaining to methods for improving that
performance. The student’s academic advisor is also a valuable resource,
since the advisor is able to evaluate the student’s comprehensive
performance throughout both the semester and the student’s tenure
at Lycoming.
All freshmen are assessed by their professors
six weeks into each semester. Parents of dependent children
with a FERPA form on file, academic advisors, coaches and the
Assistant Dean for Freshmen will each receive a copy of these
assessments. The purpose of these assessments is to alert the
student to the need for improvement and to give the student ample
opportunity and time to do so. Advisors and the Freshman Dean make
use of these assessments to connect students with tutors and study
groups.
Each designated
freshman hall includes a STAR (STudent
Academic Resource). STARs provide information and
referral services, and offer workshops on study skills, time
management, and similar topics.
