Fall 2008 Tutoring Schedule

Scroll down for Subject Tutoring and Study Groups

THE WRITING CENTER

Located on the 3rd floor of Snowden Library. No appointment necessary. See hours below.

"The image that should be cultivated of writing tutors is that they are merely an extra set of eyes, ready to catch the mistakes that writers cannot because they're so deeply embedded in their own work. [...] I am a consultant, someone with the time to read through a paper and make suggestions. I am not writing the students' papers, nor am I simply editing them." -Kirsten Darby

"To me, being a writing tutor isn't just about being part of the grammar police of Lycoming College, but it is about being a resource to people that need help." -Caitlin Eberz

What you can expect: "Consultant," as opposed to "tutor," better describes the role of a Lycoming student who works in the Writing Center. Good writers themselves, the consultants listed below have been thoroughly trained to guide fellow students through the writing process, from brainstorming to final revision. They are not simply copy editors or grammar checkers. Take advantage of the friendly advice they can provide at every stage of your writing project.

Not all consultants are English majors. Though several of them are English/Creative Writing majors, some specialize in the sciences, archaeology, foreign languages, and other areas. You can make your appointments with these specializations in mind.
