ResNet Installation Prerequisite Checklist From CD
q
Your ResNet Application on file.
q
Has your Network Line been activated? Is
the cable hanging from the jack with a set of install instructions and an
activation confirmation? Do you have a
network cable that is long enough to reach form your computer to the wall port
without being pulled tight or kinked?
Please handle network cables gently, as they are delicate.
q
Computer set up and plugged in. Is your
computer ready to be turned on? Are all
the cables (monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc.) plugged into the correct ports?
Please do not have any programs active on you computer when starting the ResNet
install.
q
Network card installed. Is the
network card in your computer physically installed and are its drivers set
up? If your network card is not a 3COM
3C905B or 3C905C, the IT will not assist you with your card, should you have
trouble. If you do not yet have a
network card, you can purchase one at any computer retailer. Stores in the campus area include: PCS,
ComputerLand, Leading Electronics, Micro1, and Staples.

Meets minimum requirements. Does your computer meet all
of the requirements listed below? IT
will also verify this step.
q
Processor Speed: (Laptops): 200 MHz Pentium or better (Desktops): 200 MHz Pentium or
better. If you are unsure about this,
check your documentation. New computers
will easily meet or exceed this.
q
RAM:
32 MB. To check your RAM, right-click
on ‘My Computer’ icon on your desktop.
Select Properties. You should
find your RAM listing near the bottom.
q
CD-ROM drive present.
q
Hard Drive space: 100-MB space available. To
check your hard drive’s free space, open the ‘My Computer’ icon and right-click
on your ‘C:drive.’ Select Properties
and check the amount of free space listed.
IT recommends at least 200 MB of space available.
q Operating System: Are you running a Windows operating system? IT will connect and support Windows 95, 98,
Windows 2000, and Mac OS 7.5 computers.
Have your operating system disk ready in case IT needs to install
additional networking components.
q Boots Up. Does the computer turn on and start Windows?

1. Click on Start, then Run.
2. Type winipcfg and then hit Enter.
3. Click on the top box and Select the Ethernet Adapter.
4. Write down the Adapter Address.
5. Call the IT at #4150 and tell them the number.
6. Click on Ok.
Step Two: Activate DHCP for
ResNet Access
1. Close any programs currently running on your computer.
2. Click on the Start menu in the lower left of the screen.
3. Go to the Settings menu.
4. Click on Control Panel.
5. In the Control Panel window double-click on the Network icon.

Highlight the TCP/IP by single clicking on it and then
click Properties.
7. Select the IP Address tab.
8. Choose to Obtain and IPAddress automatically.
9. Select the WINS Configuration tab.
10. Choose Use DHCP for WINS Resolution at the bottom.
11. Select the Gateway tab.
12. Remove any existing Gateways.
13. Select the DNS Configuration tab.
14. Choose Disable DNS.
15. Click OK in the TCP/IP Properties window.
16. Click OK in the Network window.
17. The computer may need you to insert your Windows 95 or 98 CD now.
18.
Once the settings have been configured the computer will ask
you to restart your computer. Do that now.
Step Three: Installing
Novell Client
1. You can install Novell Client from a CD ROM:
A. Double Click on My Computer.
B. Double Click on your CD ROM Drive.
C. Double Click the Novell Folder.
D. Double Click Win Setup
E. Window 95/98 Client.
F. Select Typical and then click on Install.
G. Click Yes
H. When asked to Reboot Click- Yes
I. Novell Login comes up click cancel
J. Cancel any other login screens
K. Right Click on Network Neighborhood
L. Select Properties
M. Highlight Novell Netware Client
N. Select Properties
O. Click on the Client Tab.
P. In the Preferred Server Box, Type Student1
Q. Click on the Contextless Login Tab.
R. Click on the White Box next to Enable (if not already enabled).
S. In the white box below Tree, Type lyco
T. In the white box below Catalog, Type .lycocat.lyco
U. Click on Add.
V. Click on Ok.
W. Click on OK Network Screen
X. Select Yes to restart computer.
Y. When the Novell Login Screen comes up.
Z. Click on the Advanced Tab at the bottom of the Box.
AA. In
the Tree Box, Type lyco (verify this setting)
BB. In the NDS Box, for server
type Student1
CC. Type Your Username and Password and Click Ok.
DD. Click on Yes to Change Your Password if prompted to do so.
1. You can install GroupWise 5 from a CD ROM:
A. Double Click on My Computer.
B. Double Click on your CD ROM Drive.
C. Double Click the GROUPWISE 5.2 Folder.
D. Double Click Setup. (computer with box icon)
E. Click on Next.
F. Select Standard Install and Click Next.
G. Click on Next at the Destination Directory Window.
H. Click on Next at the Select Program Folder Window.
I. Click on Next at the Language Selection Window.
J. Click on Next at the Start Copying Files Window.
K. Click on Next at the Software Integrations Window.
L. Click on Next at the Select Optional Components Window.
M. Uncheck the Two Boxes at the Setup Complete Window and Click on Finish.
N. Right Click on the GroupWise 5 Icon on Your Desktop.
O. Click on Properties.
P. Click on the Shortcut Tab at the top of the GroupWise 5 Properties Window.
Q. On the Target Line after GRPWISE.EXE, add a space then /@u-?
R. Click on Ok.
S. Double Click the GroupWise 5 Icon on your desktop.
T. In the GroupWise Startup Window, click on the TCP/IP Address Tab.
U. In the Address Box, Type ngwnameserver2
V. In the Port Box, Type 1677
W. Click on the User Tab.
X. Enter your Login Name and Password.
Y. Click on Ok.
Z. You have now finished installing GroupWise 5.
Step Five: Downloading and
Installing Internet Explorer 5
*
This step assumes you do not already have at least Internet Explorer 5.0
already loaded. If you do you can skip
this step. You can check what version
you are running by starting Internet Explorer selecting Help, about Internet
Explorer and version #
A. Double Click on My Computer.
B. Double Click on your CD ROM Drive.
C. Double Click on the ie5setup Icon.
D. Select I accept the agreement.
E. Click Next.
F. Select Install Minimal and click Next.
G. Scroll down and Select FrontPage Express.
H. Click on Next.
I. Click on Next at the Download Sites Window.
J. Click on Finish to Restart Your Computer.
K. Double Click the Internet Explorer Icon on your Desktop.
L. The Internet Connection Wizard Box comes up.
M. Select, I want to set up my internet connection manually…
N. Click on Next.
O. Select, I connect through a local area network (LAN).
P. Click on Next.
Q. Select, Automatic discovery of proxy server.
R. Click on Next.
S. Select No at the Set up Your Internet Mail Account Window.
T. Click on Next.
U. Click on Finish.
V. This will launch Internet Explorer 5.
W. At the Top of the Window, Click on Tools, then Internet Options.
X. In the Homepage Section, in the Address Box, Type http://www.lycoming.edu
Y. Click on Ok.
Z. Click on the Home Button at the top of your browser.
AA. Your are now at the Lycoming College Homepage.
BB. Internet Explorer 5 is now Installed.
If you currently have a virus checker loaded you will be
prompted with a message that states that you have a virus checker currently
loaded. Uninstall any virus checker
programs and continue with the installation of the Cheyenne AntiVirus
Software. You may use your own or
load the Cheyenne AntiVirus, but you are required to have installed a virus
checker as part of your ResNet installation.
· Yes, scan local hard disks
· No, do not scan local hard disks
