PERFORMANCES AT THE MARY L. WELCH THEATRE
The Theatre Department produces a full season of faculty- and student-directed productions each year, including classics, musicals, and cutting-edge new drama. As many as 10-15 productions each season provide students with numerous opportunities to create theatre. Four shows are produced in the Mary L. Welch Theatre, an intimate thrust stage with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. Recent productions include the cult musical The Rocky Horror Show, Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Kaufman and Hart’s classic American comedy You Can’t Take It with You, and Henrik Ibsen’s modern tragedy Hedda Gabler. The Downstage Theatre, our flexible black-box space, is home to a variety of student-produced shows. Plays recently produced in the Downstage Theatre include “The Actor’s Nightmare,” “The Lover,” and “A Marriage Proposal.”
The Theatre Department also produces a touring children’s theatre company, the Emerald City Players, that takes shows “on the road” to local area schools. Recent Emerald City Players productions include “The Just So Stories, “The Emperoress" New Clothes,” and “Once, Twice, Thrice!”
