INTERNSHIPS

One of the keys to a successful undergraduate education is an internship. Internships enable out students to obtain "real world, hands on" experiences. Lycoming is fortunate to be located in a city which serves as the county seat for Lycoming County. There are various local, state, and federal government offices located within easy walking distance of the campus. Students may choose to intern in Williamsport or in some of the other major metropolitan areas located nearby. In the past, students have served as interns with elected state and federal representatives, the Public Defender's Office, the Lycoming County Court Administrator, Williamsport city government, and many local law firms.

The Washington Semester

One or two selected students each semester eagerly pack their bags to study in the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. The Washington Semester, in conjunction with American University, places student in internships with the White House, Congress, federal agencies, and interest groups. They may choose from seven semester programs: Washington, Urban, Foreign Policy, International Development, Economic Policy, Science and Technology, or American Studies.

"The Washington Semester represented a turning point in my life. Through this program, I was exposed to and interacted with some of the top foreign policy makers within our country as well as from other nations. Several days a week, my small group met with representatives from the State Department, the White House, and the CIA, among others, to discuss the day's pressing issues. I knew immediately following the semester that I wanted to work with developing democracies."

Joseph Longobardo

"Lycoming's Political Science department provides students with the hands-on experience they need to excel in politics, the law, or a number of career fields. Not only do they challenge you to learn and look at issues from a variety of perspectives, but they also work with their students to find internships and opportunities that encourage personal growth."
