GREETINGS
When I came to Lycoming, I knew that I wanted to become a Political Science major from the beginning. The Professors of the department really made my decision easier. Other private liberal-arts colleges did not have the exceptional and knowledgeable faculty that Lycoming does.
I live in Owings Mills, Maryland; only about 20 minutes outside of Baltimore. The move from Baltimore to Williamsport was different, but I've truly enjoyed every minute of it.
At Lycoming, I took my first political science course and immediately became involved with the mayoral race for the City of Williamsport. After seeing victory in the mayoral race, my love for politics, especially campaigns, grew. At the end of my first semester, I was elected President of the College Republicans. Today, the club can boast over 60 members who are all working hard to keep the club growing. I am also excited to see the College Democrats thrive in the same fashion. I always enjoy good political discourse.
While at Lycoming, I was exposed to another aspect of politics when I enrolled in the Public opinion and Polling course. The course allowed for the entire class to learn about every aspect of polling. We even wrote and conducted our own poll for a local judicial race. Since then, I have seen the creation of The Lycoming College Polling Institute, founded in 2003 to serve the survey research needs of north central Pennsylvania. I've worked on 2 full scale polls since the creation of the Institute. I enjoyed every domestic policy course at Lycoming so much that I've taken more then were needed to complete my major.
Through the organizations and leadership in the Political Science department, I've been able to see President Bush in Wilkes-Barre, PA. When Vice President Cheney came to Williamsport, Lycoming College Republicans were chosen to help staff his event. The Political Science Department has offered me so much over the past few years that when I graduate, I know that I will have all the know-how needed for political career that is to come in my future.
