GREETINGS

Hello, I am Meghan Engelman, a junior at Lycoming College. I grew up in Montgomery, Pennsylvania, a small town fifteen minutes away from school. Growing up close to the College, I never knew what amazing opportunities students were offered until I made a campus visit.

I transferred to Lycoming as a freshman during my second semester because the liberal arts program allowed me to get my feet wet in a variety of fields. First, I decided to check out archaeology as a possible career and Lycoming is known nationally for having a very strong program with in-depth field experience. Next, growing up I loved working with my father in his law office and never ruled out the possibility of being an attorney. Therefore, I decided to pursue my goal of becoming a lawyer and an archaeologist by declaring a double major in philosophy and archaeology and packaging it with Lycoming’s pre-law program.

So far I have taken four courses in philosophy and look forward to delving further into the major as I begin my last two years as a student. In every philosophy course that I have taken, my professor has taught us to question everything and to find deeper meaning for how we live our lives and develop our thoughts. In this case, philosophy has helped me with my major in archaeology because students need to be careful about what they believe when studying an ancient artifact. Archaeology is a lot of speculation and guessing and my philosophy courses have helped me to develop keener investigative skills.

I have greatly enjoyed my time at Lycoming and will be sad when I have to graduate. The students and teachers are wonderful people and there is always plenty to do. I have already learned so much from everyone here and I know that my studies and life lessons will help me in continuing my education at law school. I hope to see you in one of my classes!
