A.B., Cornell University
M.A., University of Pittsburgh
Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh
Dr. Stephen Griffith - Dr. Griffith began his academic career by enrolling in an accelerated 5-year program in engineering physics in the Engineering School at Cornell University. During his first three years in the program, he completed a two semester liberal elective in the history of science which convinced him that his true interest was in the philosophical foundations of science, so he transferred to the College of Arts and Sciences, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and completed a major in philosophy. After graduating from Cornell, he obtained an M.A. and Ph. D. in philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh, studying with such philosophical luminaries as Adolf Grunbaum, Nicholas Rescher, and the late Wilfrid Sellars, who directed his dissertation. Since that time he has been teaching the history of science, philosophy of science, philosophy of religion, and other courses in philosophy and has published papers in ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of religion and philosophy of science.
