Dr. Neil Boyd and Organization Development Students

Visit Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware

Dr. Neil Boyd, assistant professor of management, and three Lycoming College students visited Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Del., on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007.  Nate Kraynak, Ben Schack, and Emily Snyder, who are students in Dr. Boyd’s organization development course, attended the event.  The group met with Dr. Rosa Colon, vice president of systems learning, and her team of organization development specialists to learn how organization development is conceived and implemented at Christiana Care Health System. Dr. Boyd and the students were given a private tour of the facilities and learned about organization development applications during a three-hour session.

Christiana Care recently added a state-of-the-art education wing that allows the organization development team to run focus groups, learning sessions, and training and education.  According to Dr. Boyd, the students learned a great deal about organization development in a large-scale organizational setting.

Christiana Health Care System is one of the largest 20 hospital systems in the nation, and primarily serves northern Delaware and the mid-Atlantic region between Philadelphia and Baltimore. In 2007, Christiana was awarded the Ernest Amory Codman Award by the Joint Commission.  This prestigious national honor is given for excellence in the use of outcomes measurement by health care organizations to achieve improvements in the quality and safety of health care.
