guzmanLycoming College senior Amilcar Guzman was one of only 30 students in the United States recently selected to participate in the Hispanic Young Professionals Program, an annual leadership event sponsored by the Hispanic College Fund.

This year’s event, held October 23 – 28 in Washington, D.C., featured career-focused workshops, company visits and an awards gala where Guzman and other students were recognized for their numerous academic achievements.  Corporate executives, entrepreneurs, members of Congress and other community leaders attended the event.

“I hope to be a role model for other Hispanic students in the United States and will take great pride in representing my heritage during this conference,” Guzman said before attending the conference.

Guzman, a senior psychology and sociology double major with a minor in French, is an Allentown resident and graduate of Louis E. Dieruff High School.  He is currently president of the Lycoming Class of 2008, president of the Multicultural Awareness Group, a brother in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and a Latin dance instructor for the campus dance club.  Guzman also works on campus as a tour guide and a Residence Advisor.

After graduating from Lycoming, Guzman plans to pursue a graduate degree in urban affairs/public policy.  “My ultimate goal is to earn a doctorate in social policy,” he says.
