Actor, director and Oscar-nominated producer Sean Astin will visit Lycoming College on April 11 to campaign for Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Hillary Clinton. Astin will be in the Academic Center’s Pennington Lounge at 10 a.m. for a meet-and-greet, where he will talk with students on behalf of the Clinton campaign.
Astin is best known for his work as an actor. In 1984, he made his film debut in the hit movie “The Goonies,” in which he played the role of “Mikey Walsh.” Astin cemented his status as a Hollywood A-lister in 1993, when he had the staring role in the movie “Rudy.” In 2001, in the first of the three “Lord of the Rings” movies, Astin played the role of “Samwise Gamgee.”
Astin will be the second person to campaign on campus on behalf of Senator Clinton. Former President Bill Clinton spoke at Lycoming on March 29 in Lamade Gymnasium in front of approximately 2,000 people. The Student Senate of Lycoming College and the College’s Democratic and Republican student groups have extended invitations to all three major presidential candidates to speak on campus.
