Lycoming College will hold a film screening and panel discussion of “Farmingville” on March 6 at 7 p.m. in the Barclay Lecture Hall, G-11, Heim Bldg. The event is part of the College’s spring symposium series, “Beyond Borders: Navigating Immigration within the U.S.”
"Farmingville” documents the story of a town on Long Island, N.Y., where an influx of illegal immigrants has caused great controversy among the town’s citizens. There are rising tensions within the resident Anglo population, charges and counter-charges of lawlessness and racism, organizing and counter-organizing — then a violent hate crime that tears a community apart. Because of this, the small Long Island town has been the subject of many national headlines, unmasking a new front line in the border wars: suburbia.
